Disbelief in magic can force
a poor soul into believing in
government and business.

Tom Robbins

Magic is believing in yourself; if you can do that, you can make anything happen.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

We need not wait for the world to become more mystical; the world is mystical.  Our problem is not that the world lacks magic; our problem is that we don't believe in its magic.  We do not show up fully for life, and then wonder why life is not showing up more fully for us.

Marianne Williamson
Everyday Grace

When two people meet and fall in love, there's a sudden rush of magic.  Magic is just naturally present then.  We tend to feed on that gratuitous magic without striving to make any more.  One day we wake up and find that the magic is gone.  We hustle to get it back, but by then it's usually too late, we've used it up.  What we have to do is work like hell at making additional magic right from the start.  It's hard work, but if we can remember to do it, we greatly improve our chances of making love stay.

Tom Robbins
Still Life with Woodpecker

Magic exists.  Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars?  Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic.  It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.

Nora Roberts

All creative art is magic, is evocation of the unseen in
forms persuasive, enlightening, familiar and surprising.

Joseph Conrad

That's the thing with magic. You've got to know it's still here,
all around us, or it just stays invisible for you.

Charles de Lint

And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you
because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most
unlikely places.  Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.

Roald Dahl

Life is magic, the way nature works seems to be quite magical.

Jonas Salk

Any sufficiently advanced technology is
indistinguishable from magic.

Arthur C. Clarke

Formerly, when religion was strong and science weak, people
mistook magic for medicine; now, when science is strong
and religion weak, people mistake medicine for magic.

Thomas Szasz

We wait all these years to find someone who understands us,
I thought, someone who accepts us as we are, someone with a
wizard's power to melt stone to sunlight, who can bring us
happiness in spite of trials, who can face our dragons in the night,
who can transform us into the soul we choose to be. Just yesterday
I found that magical Someone is the face we see in the mirror:
It's us and our homemade masks.

Richard Bach

Children see magic because they look for it.

Christopher Moore

Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal

Never, ever stop believing in magic, no matter how old you get.
Because if you keep looking long enough and don't give up,
sooner or later you're going to find Mary Poppins.

Steve Kluger

And this, really, is the story-within-the-story, because if you do not believe
that hearts can bloom suddenly bigger, and that love can open like a flower
out of even the hardest places, then I am afraid that for you the world will
be long and brown and barren, and you will have trouble finding the light.
But if you do believe, then you already know all about magic.

Lauren Oliver

Magic can be found in stolen moments.

Francesca Lia Block

There is no law stronger than that of magic.

Kian

This world, after all our science and sciences, is still
a miracle; wonderful, inscrutable, magical and more,
to whosoever will think of it.

Thomas Dekker

Magical places are always beautiful
and deserve to be contemplated. . .
Always stay on the bridge between
the invisible and the visible.

Paulo Coelho

It's all a matter of paying attention, being awake in the present
moment, and not expecting a huge payoff.  The magic in this
world seems to work in whispers and small kindnesses.

Charles de Lint

The world is full of magic things, patiently
waiting for our senses to grow sharper.

W.B. Yeats

Of course there must be lots of Magic in the world,” he said wisely
one day, “but people don’t know what it is like or how to make it.
Perhaps the beginning is just to say nice things are going to happen
until you make them happen.  I am going to try and experiment."

Frances Hodgson Burnett

Love and magic have a great deal in common.  They enrich
the soul, delight the heart. And they both take practice.

Unattributed

When you're touched by magic, nothing's ever quite the same again.
What really makes me sad is all those people who never have the
chance to know that touch. They're too busy, or they just don't hold
with make-believe, so they shut the door without really knowing it
was there to be opened in the first place.

Charles de Lint

One way can be learned by starting to see the magic in everything.  Sometimes
it seems to be hiding but it is always there.  The more we can see the magic
in one thing, a tiny flower, a mango, someone we love, then the more we
are able to see the magic in everything and in everyone.
Where does the mango stop and the sky begin?

Without patience, magic would be undiscovered--in rushing
everything, we would never hear its whisper inside.

Tamora Pierce

We ourselves cannot put any magic spells on this world.
The world is its own magic.

Suzuki Roshi

Because you are human, you do have magic.  Get in touch with it.
When you feel the insanity rising, don't push it down.  Let it come out.
Just once--and then let me know what happens!

Leo Buscaglia
Living, Loving, and Learning

Magic is a sudden opening of the mind to the wonder of existence.  It is
a sense that there is much more to life than we usually recognize; that
we do not have to be confined by the limited views that our family, our
society, or our own habitual thoughts impose on us; that life contains
many dimensions, depths, textures, and meanings extending
far beyond our familiar beliefs and concepts.

John Welwood

Alone in his car heading west, it's easy for Jason
to feel sorry for himself and mad at the world.  But
then he gives a ride to Hector and learns that life
isn't nearly as negative as we sometimes see it,
and that the prejudice and discrimination that
he's experiencing aren't unique to him--and aren't
impossible to overcome.  The friendship between
this young man and his 70-year-old passenger is
an inspiring story of love and dealing with
obstacles in our lives.
