Quotations

Quotations are the heart and soul of our site, for they're what first inspired us to start.
We tend to go past quotations, though, and look at just as many short passages,
for we're trying to go a bit deeper and present material that will be valuable
to our visitors.  We consider our pages to comprise one of the most extensive
collections of positive quotations anywhere, whether online or in print form,
and these pages have been over a decade in the making--and they continue to grow
constantly with the passage of time.  Please enjoy!
(Some notes about our quotations are available here.)

The wisdom of the wise and the experience
of the ages are perpetuated by quotations.

A few notes about our quotations:  First of all, we don't count them.  We honestly don't care how many there are.  All it takes is for one important idea to take root in our consciousness for us to learn, to grow, and to change, and what's important to us is that we present a broad array of thoughts and ideas--but knowing just how many there are can do nothing to improve the experience of a visitor to the site.
That said, our second note is that we don't necessarily agree with everything that you'll find on this site.  We do recognize, though, that every single person on this planet is in a unique place in his or her journey, and will need to hear and learn different things.  If this site is to be useful to a broad spectrum of people, then, it's important to present thoughts and ideas that may help people in various stages of growth.  Besides, the fact that we don't agree with something today doesn't necessarily mean that we won't agree with it tomorrow.
Third, as mentioned on our main page, none of the ideas here are presented as rules or absolute laws.  They are presented as ideas, and you may take from them what you will.
Finally, a note about the layout.  The quotes aren't separated and presented in separate fonts for the sake of decoration.  We use different fonts and colors for a very specific reason:  to isolate each thought so that it can be considered on its own, so that it can have its own personality and be taken by its own measure.  Many sites offer quotations in long lists using the same font, the same font size, and the same color.  This is fine.  But we often find that when the words are presented in that way, thoughts from different people tend to become too similar to each other, running into each other and losing their identity.  Our attempt to present each thought as unique in font and layout is simply an attempt to help the reader to keep each thought separate in his or her mind.  We know that it helps us to see them this way, and we hope that it helps others.
We are continually adding new ideas and new thoughts.  The site that you visit today is not the same site that was here one year ago, or one month ago.  If you return in two months, it will be different once more.  You may not see or recognize all of the changes, depending on which pages you visit, but changes are being made almost every single day that passes, and we sincerely hope that these changes are for the better, to provide a broader range of ideas that can help us all to grow and mature as we make our ways through life.
You will find some repeats.  Sometimes that's because a particular quotation fits on more than one page--perhaps change and letting go, or abundance and thoughts.  Sometimes you'll find a duplicate on pages of the same topic, or even on the same page--those are simply mistakes.  We try not to do those and we take them down when we catch them, but sometimes we simply miss the fact that this quotation that we're putting on the fifth page of life quotations is also on the second page.  It would take far too long to check every possible page when we're putting a new quotation on the site; we want to keep expanding its usefulness and relevance, and a duplicate quotation now and then seems to be a small price to pay for the ability to expand regularly.
Finally, we sincerely thank you for your visit.  You are the reason this site exists, and we hope and pray that it will be useful for you.  We sincerely believe that the people whose words are here wrote or spoke those words in order to be helpful to others, and we pass them along in that spirit.  So thank you for your visit, and thank you for being you!

Yes, life can be mysterious and confusing--but there's much of life that's actually rather dependable and reliable.  Some principles apply to life in so many different contexts that they can truly be called universal--and learning what they are and how to approach them and use them can teach us some of the most important lessons that we've ever learned.
My doctorate is in Teaching and Learning.  I use it a lot when I teach at school, but I also do my best to apply what I've learned to the life I'm living, and to observe how others live their lives.  What makes them happy or unhappy, stressed or peaceful, selfish or generous, compassionate or arrogant?  In this book, I've done my best to pass on to you what I've learned from people in my life, writers whose works I've read, and stories that I've heard.  Perhaps these principles can be a positive part of your life, too!
Universal Principles of Living Life Fully.  Awareness of these principles can explain a lot and take much of the frustration out of the lives we lead.
