Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal.
Difficult standards for people to live up to.

You cannot share your life with a dog, as I had done in Bournemouth, or a cat, and not know perfectly well that animals have personalities and minds and feelings.

Animals are sentient, intelligent, perceptive, funny and entertaining. We owe them a duty of care as we do to children.

Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of
them.

No matter how close we are to another person, few human relationships are as free from strife, disagreement, and frustration as is the relationship you have with a good dog.
Few human beings give of themselves to another as a dog gives of itself.
I also suspect that we cherish dogs because their unblemished souls make us wish--consciously or unconsciously--that we were as innocent as they are, and make us yearn for a place where innocence is universal and where the meanness, the betrayals, and the cruelties of this world are
unknown.
Dean Koontz

If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and
gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.

It's difficult to understand why people don't realize that pets are gifts to mankind.

Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains

Dogs, those furry companions that brighten our lives, live a fraction
of the lifespan humans do. Yet, they seem to possess an extraordinary
ability to find happiness in the simplest of moments, teaching us
invaluable lessons about living life with boundless optimism and joy.
It’s often said that dogs are among the happiest creatures or animals,
and their unwavering enthusiasm for life can serve as a profound
reminder for us humans to appreciate the beauty in every moment.
We have to admire their innate ability to fully immerse themselves
in the present. Whether playing or resting they give their full attention
to each moment, reminding us to savour life as it unfolds, rather than
constantly looking ahead or dwelling in the past.
J.T. Alexander

I have felt cats rubbing their faces against mine and touching my
cheek with claws carefully sheathed. These things, to me,
are expressions of love.

When we adopt a dog or any pet, we know it is going to end with us
having to say goodbye, but we still do it. And we do it for a very good
reason: They bring so much joy and optimism and happiness.
They attack
every moment of every day with that attitude.
W. Bruce Cameron

For many people who are so lost in their minds, so much involved
in their thought processes, the only moments they have when they
are not trapped in that is when they are relating to their animal, their pet.
Eckhart Tolle

Owners lavish love on their pets, which is why so many go from
non-aggressive pups to being out of control when they're older.
People just don't realise their dog must respect them
as leader of the pack.

Over the years I've come to appreciate how animals enter our lives prepared
to teach and far from being burdened by an inability to speak they have many
different ways to communicate. It is up to us to listen more than hear,
to look into more than past.

Maybe this is kind of
cliché, but dogs are what I do for a living. One reason I like spending time with them so much is they seem to think people are really good.
They live with us, and obey our rules, most of which make no sense to them.
And the main reason they do it is because they like us.
When I watch them, sometimes I'm so blown away by how enthusiastic they are about everything we do that I have to go out and buy them something squeaky or chewy.
Just because I love proving to them that it's not a mistake to see the world as a great benevolent place.
I hope one day to react to something with as much pure ecstasy as I see in Chuck's face every time I throw the ball.
Sometimes he looks so happy, it reminds me of the way blind people smile way too big because they can't see themselves.
And if none of this links to anything in you, well.
. . . I think you don't know who I am.

My philosophy when it came to pets was much like that of having
children: You got what you got, and you loved them unconditionally
regardless of whatever their personalities or flaws turned out to be.

It may be a cat, a bird, a ferret, or a guinea pig, but the chances are high
that when someone close to you dies, a pet will be there to pick up the slack.
Pets devour the loneliness. They give us purpose, responsibility, a reason for
getting up in the morning, and a reason to look to the future. They ground us,
help us escape the grief, make us laugh, and take full advantage of our
weakness by exploiting our furniture, our beds, and our refrigerator.
We wouldn't have it any other way. Pets are our seat belts on the
emotional roller coaster of life--they can be trusted,
they keep us safe, and they sure do smooth out the ride.
Nick Trout

It's no secret that the impact animals have on us can be healing
and can help us to understand how to communicate. Animals don't
mock, they don't pretend, they don't have hidden agendas. That
sort of thing is exactly what we need...it's what everyone
needs.

The whole glorious history of animals with people is about
joy and connection. It’s about loving this creature
and letting this creature love you.

People who care about animals tend to care about people.
They don’t
care about animals to the exclusion of people. Caring is not a finite
resource and, even more than that, it’s like a muscle: the more
you exercise it, the stronger it gets.
Jonathan Foer |

What is the
human without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone,
people
would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the
beasts, soon happens to humans. All things are
connected.
