Today's
Meditation:
What
really happens to us when we set our sights too low?
What happens to us when we seek the easiest way through
our tasks or problems rather than facing challenges
head-on? What do we become when we try to seek out
the way that reflects back to us our low expectations of
ourselves rather than showing us the tremendous potential
that exists in every single one of us?
If
I ask for ease rather than challenges, I'll never grow to
be a stronger person. A runner who never pushes past
an easy pace will never improve his or her speed-- it's
only in the difficult parts that one develops speed and
stamina. A police officer or fireman who only
experiences very easy calls for years will have a very
hard time dealing with difficult calls when they start
coming in, only because he or she never has had to push
him or herself to the limits of possibility.
There
are very real results of lives of ease. They tend to
be boredom and listlessness and lack of purpose. We
see that drug and alcohol abuse is often just as prevalent among
the wealthy who live these lives of ease as it is among
the poor.
Pray
for challenges and pray for the strength to meet those
challenges, and you'll find that your strength grows a
lot. The next time a challenge arises it will be
easier to deal with. And if it's a more difficult
challenge next time, your strength will have grown so that
you can face the challenge effectively and grow some more.
The
easy life almost never helps us to grow. Challenges
will come to all of us, and we need to develop our
strength so that we can meet those challenges more
effectively.
