Today's quotation:

There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace.  You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub.

Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross

Today's Meditation:

Peace.  What a beautiful concept, and such a beautiful quality.  With peace in our minds and hearts, this world becomes a much different place for us; seeing our lives and the lives of others through peaceful eyes gives us a truly unique vision of just what life is all about.

Can we find peace outside of ourselves, though?  Is it possible for some outside source to change us inside, in our hearts and spirits?  Time and experience tell us that the answer is no, of course--until we're ready to experience peace inside and until we're ready to allow ourselves to feel it, we will have no peace, no matter what our outside situations.

There is peace in your heart, but your mind--especially your ego--don't really want you to find it.  After all, a peaceful mind will put the ego out of work; and that's precisely what the ego fears.  The ego likes to keep us feeling that we need it drastically, and if I'm sitting quietly in a peaceful state, I really have no need of the ego.  But until we're ready to let go of our attachment to the ego and its way of making us feel good about ourselves on truly superficial terms, peace will be out of our reach no matter where we are.

If on the other hand we let go of our need to feel "important" and wanted and loved--and accept the fact that we already are all of those things--our egos will continue to keep us thinking that things aren't so good, and that we need the things that the ego is doing for--or to--us.

Accept the peace within you, and put your ego out of business.  It really isn't there to do what's best for us.

Questions to consider:

Have you found the peace inside yourself?  Do you know how to access it when you need it most, or do you tend to get further away from it in stressful and hectic times?

Why do we not learn about the peace inside ourselves as we grow?

What kinds of things might you do to allow yourself to feel more peace?

For further thought:

If you do not find peace in yourself,
you will never find it anywhere else.
