Today's quotation:

Success is neither magical nor mysterious.  Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.

Jim Rohn

Today's Meditation:

It's kind of funny how many people prefer to ignore some of the fundamental rules of life when they're trying to reach success.  Many people strive to be successful without putting forth effort, somehow feeling "entitled" to their success and becoming very disappointed when it doesn't come to them.

One of the basic fundamentals in success in careers is effort-- how much we put forth and what kinds of tasks we spend that effort on.  One of the basic fundamentals of success in relationships is listening-- learning about the other person and his or her needs and wants and things that he or she is proud of.  One of the basic fundamentals of success in home life is acceptance of others and allowing them to be themselves.  All of these things take effort in applying them, and all are basic fundamentals that if we work at them will help us to reach success in certain areas of our lives.

When we look at a successful person we often wish that we could reach such levels of success.  But even the most successful actors went through periods when they auditioned for minor roles just like everyone else.  Successful business people have gone through times of difficult and focused work, and they've focused on applying the basic fundamentals.

Applying basic fundamentals isn't going to guarantee us fame or fortune, but those things aren't necessarily elements of success.  Success is reaching our goals and becoming the people we're meant to be, and the way to reach success is by applying fundamental principles to our lives and our work.  They'll build a strong base upon which we can build everything else.

Questions to consider:

What are some of the basic fundamentals you can be using in your profession?  Do you apply them regularly?

Why do so many people decide to ignore basic fundamentals and try for shortcuts to success?

Are there any real shortcuts to true success?

For further thought:

Attention to detail is the secret of success in every sphere of life, and little kindnesses, little acts of consideration, little appreciations, little confidences,. . . . they are all that are needed to keep the friendship sweet.
