Today's
quotation:
Hope is the companion of
power, and mother of success;
for who so hopes strongly
has within oneself the gift of miracles.
Samuel Smiles

Today's
Meditation:
What
can you accomplish in life? How can you improve your
lot in life, and do the things you wish to do and see the
things you wish to see? One thing's for sure:
if you give up hope that you'll be able to do the things
you wish to do, you're practically guaranteeing that you
won't be able to do them.
Hope
is the part of ourselves that sees possibility and
potential as reality, not just pipedreams. Hope is
the part that we keep alive in order to keep us working
towards goals that are important to us, towards ends that
we feel will make us better and stronger human
beings. Hope is what we share with others in the
form of encouragement and teaching; it's the hope of a
better future that keeps us working to provide a nurturing
present.
Hope
brings us power because we can achieve true
accomplishments only when we have hope that we can achieve
them. Hope is the mother of success because we can
succeed only where the spark of hope ignites the flame of
success.
If
we're to allow hope to have its positive effects in our
lives, we must nurture it and feed it and allow it to
grow. Our hope won't just happen--we must accept it
and let it guide us in our journeys and our efforts.
When we do so, we'll discover what it means to have the
gift of miracles.

Questions to
consider:
What does the "gift of miracles" mean to
you? Do you have it?
Why do so many people have trouble holding on to hope?
Is it easy to hope strongly? What might we do in
order to make it easier for us? |
For further
thought:
Hope arouses, as
nothing else can arouse,
a passion for the possible.
William
Sloan Coffin, Jr.
