Today's
quotation:
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with
joy, if a blade
of grass springing up in the fields has
power to move you,
if the simple things of nature have a
message that you
understand, rejoice, for your soul is
alive.

Today's
Meditation:
I
feel very grateful that things such as Eleonora mentions
do move me, do make me feel a sense of amazement at just
how full of wonder this world is. And when I do feel
that way, I know for sure that my soul is alive, and I'm
very grateful for that blessing. But I often wonder
what I would do if that weren't the case--just how might I
go about bringing my soul to life?
I
believe that in this sense, it may be more appropriate and
accurate to make the distinction between the soul being
awake or asleep, rather than alive or dead. Or
perhaps we're so busy that we've put our spirit in the
closet until we have more time for it, and it's trapped in
the dark rather than flying free in the light. This
way of looking at it doesn't give the finality of death--
it leaves the revival of our spirits to us as a
choice, one that we can make whenever we want to live a
spirit-filled life rather than walking the paths that
we've allowed others to push us down.
Some
days I don't let my spirit wake completely--as Longfellow
said many years ago, "some days must be
dreary." Perhaps I feel down or tired, or
perhaps something has happened that keeps me
preoccupied. But I always have faith that such a
state is temporary, because I know that I have the choice
to awaken my spirit and live through its guidance whenever
I want to do so. Down times will happen, but they
don't define me.
Right
now I see the late afternoon sunlight on the pine tree
outside our door, just ten feet from where I'm
sitting. It's a sight that reminds me of the beauty
and wonder of this world, and I'm grateful that I'm able
to feel the appreciation deep inside me for this
incredible work of art and life that's so close to me, all
the time.
