I Resolve to Fail
Lena Sanchez

Every new year people make goals or resolutions to lose weight, stop smoking, spend more time with the family, become a better person.  Yes, those are all great and last a few days or weeks before failure stops the resolve in its tracks!

I never make New Year's Resolutions as such, but I do resolve to fail at least once this year!  Yes, fail.  I plan on failing at least once maybe more.  If I do not fail at least once I have not risked anything.  To never risk means to never fail and to never fail means to never succeed!  Thomas Edison patented 1,368 inventions that improved life that we enjoy today.  He made a statement "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed.  I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is just one more step forward. . . . There are no rules here, we're just trying to accomplish something."

I find that people who never take a risk also never experience much success in any area of life.  Those people are also the ones who abandon their New Year's Resolution on the first day of failure, never to go back to it again.  Unless you are willing to try new things, you will never experience success in your business either.  Now, I don't plan on staying in failure mode.  Instead, I plan to learn from it, remold it and turn it into success.

I do resolve to make this a courageous year, even if I didn't make a resolution!

As a kid I thought that courage meant you never feared anything.  What I have found as an adult is that courageous means that you do something in spite of the fear you feel.  So I plan on being very courageous this year by using that fear!

Give away my failure!

I plan on giving away every piece of knowledge I achieve from those failures to help others!  In all the very wealthy people I know I have found that one vein running through them.  Now I'm not talking about those millionaires next door who have horded their money doing without joy in their life to accumulate wealth, but those who enjoy their riches and life and share their knowledge.

I hope you have resolved to fail this year!

Yes, life can be mysterious and confusing--but there's much of life that's actually rather dependable and reliable.  Some principles apply to life in so many different contexts that they can truly be called universal--and learning what they are and how to approach them and use them can teach us some of the most important lessons that we've ever learned.
My doctorate is in Teaching and Learning.  I use it a lot when I teach at school, but I also do my best to apply what I've learned to the life I'm living, and to observe how others live their lives.  What makes them happy or unhappy, stressed or peaceful, selfish or generous, compassionate or arrogant?  In this book, I've done my best to pass on to you what I've learned from people in my life, writers whose works I've read, and stories that I've heard.  Perhaps these principles can be a positive part of your life, too!
Universal Principles of Living Life Fully.  Awareness of these principles can explain a lot and take much of the frustration out of the lives we lead.
